Johanny Veiga Barbosa

 

Johanny Veiga Barbosa began her studies during her childhood with her father Juraci Rodrigues Barbosa in her native country of Brazil. As a performer, she has been part of the Prelude Orchestra, acting as Concertmaster for almost ten years and performing solo works with the orchestra such as Mozart’s Violin Concerto #4, Heifetz’s Hora Staccato, E. Malhe’s Concertino, and others. In 2004, she was a finalist in the “Othonio Benvenuto” competition for young soloists and, in 2011, after a selective audition process, was accepted to the Symphony Orchestra of Londrina University (UEL) in Londrina, Brazil. Johanny studied violin performance at the University of Maringá (UEM), where she received her bachelor´s degree in 2016 and acted as the principal second violin and soloist in the University of Maringa Chamber Orchestra. In 2015 and 2016, she received a fellowship to study and perform at one of the most important music festivals circuits in Brazil the International Festival (FIMMA).  This allowed her the opportunity to perform with the Symphony Orchestra while receiving daily masterclasses with artists such as Dr. Carmelo de Los Santos, Dr. Betina Stegman and Dr. Alejandro Drago. Her violin teachers include David Taylor, Dr. Eva Szekely, Dr. Cecília Guida, Dr. Eliza Fukuda, Martin Tuksa, Dr. Paulo Bosísio, Dr. Marco Damm, Paulo Lückman and currently Dr. Stephen Nordstrom. Johanny is honored to recently begin her master’s degree at the University of Texas at El Paso as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and for the opportunity to perform as the principal second violin of the (UTEP) Symphony Orchestra.
